Lloyd Jones shared his joy as he spoke post-game at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, where the Addicks fought from behind to secure a 2-1 win on the road.

The Charlton vice-captain was on hand to net the Addicks’ first as we returned to winning ways against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday.

“I had too much time to be honest,” laughed Jones, describing his goal. “I didn’t know what I was going to do! Whether to side foot it in, but I am so thankful it went into the back of the net, it was a good feeling, I feel like I owed that after the performance at the weekend.”

The 29-year-old voiced his discontent upon reflecting on his performance in the Addicks loss to Rotherham on Saturday. He admitted he needed to put things right for everyone involved.

He said: “It wasn’t good enough on Saturday, from myself,  I felt I let the staff, the team and the fans down. I wanted to put it right today, thankful that we did.

“It’s a really tough place to come, they are not a bad side, they keep possession of the ball really well. To go in at half-time at 0-0, you have always got a chance. The lads came that came on all made an impact today, that is so important if we want to do something this season.”

Despite defeat at the weekend, the defender highlighted that spirits remained high in the squad.

“This group is really together;" he said. "We are really behind what we want to do this season, and we are really behind the manager. It takes a lot of character, especially after the weekend and then going a goal down today, to come back and win it was massive.”
