PSA testing set for Huddersfield matchday

'

The club will host its annual PSA testing matchday at The Valley on Saturday, March 29th ahead of the men’s first-team’s fixture against Huddersfield Town.

Fans from both Charlton and Huddersfield are eligible to book their slot, with 500 spaces available on the day.

Over 100 tests have already been booked ahead of the match and with tests expected to be in high demand, please click here to book yours now.

Tracey Leaburn, Head of First-Team Player Care, said: "We test 500 men on the day. Our previous test day saw 40 supporters receive amber/red flagged tests, 16 amber and 24 red results."

135 supporters have now received flagged results over the years, potentially saving several lives before it’s too late.

"You won’t necessarily have any symptoms with prostate cancer," she explained. "By the time that you find out there’s something wrong, it’s too late. Only recently I had a man come up to me at a game and say he did the test, had no symptoms and found out that he had it, and he’s now going through treatment. That’s the consistent story I hear from fans that have attended our testing days."

The PSA test is a blood test that can help diagnose prostate problems, including prostate cancer - the most common cancer in men in the UK.

Men over 50, men with a family history of prostate cancer and black men are more at risk of prostate cancer.

Speaking on the process itself, Tracey explained that is incredibly quick and simple: "All you have to do is book online. You then get a check in time on the day and from there it’s a couple minutes with a simple blood test and then you’re done.

"Don’t think that because you don’t feel ill that you can’t be tested. What have you got to lose, please have a test," she added.

Fans are asked to pledge a £15 donation to have their test. Each kit costs £30 per person, meaning there is a shortfall of £15. With this in mind, Tracey will be running a half-marathon in order to raise money for the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal.
